See the sum and average

You can quickly calculate the sum, average and count in Google Sheets.

Note: This feature doesn’t work for some numbers or currency formats.

  1. On your computer, open a spreadsheet in Google Sheets.
  2. Highlight the cells that you want to calculate.
  3. At the bottom right, find Explore Explore. Next to Explore, you'll see 'Sum: total'.
  4. To see more calculations, click Sum.
  5. Average
  6. Minimum
  7. Maximum
  8. Count
  9. Count numbers

1 Student Mark
2 Student 1 90%
3 Student 2 88%
4 Student 3 75%
5 Student 4 95%

 

To find the average mark:

  1. Highlight the range B2:B5.
  2. At the bottom right, click Sum.
  3. Choose Avg.
  4. At the bottom right, you’ll see 'Avg: 87%'.
